New in 2012. In response to demands for a larger stereo amplifier Chord has replaced the SPM 4000 with the new SPM 5000 MkII, their most powerful stereo amplifier to date. Using the latest low distortion amplifier circuitry with their proprietary lateral structure dual-die MOSFETs the SPM 5000 Mk II is able to drive extremely difficult loudspeaker loads with clarity and precision.
The heart of any amplifier is the power supply and in the SPM 5000 Mk II the power reserve has been doubled to two 4KW high frequency switch mode supplies that include Chord's proprietary dynamic coupling. This allows instantaneous power to be taken from both power rails simultaneously when the music demands, giving perfect balance and dynamic precision. This technology is complemented by a large bank of energy storage capacitors that are ‘recharged’ by the power supply many thousands of times a second giving the amplifier huge reserves and the ability to react effortlessly to any signal.
Delivering a comfortable 560W rms into 8 ohms, and 1020W rms into 4, the SPM 5000 Mk II will be the perfect accompaniment to most larger loudspeakers and can be used for stereo or as part of a multichannel system when combined with further amplification.
